Dark Matters

Look a hole within the tree
What could there be inside?
I must take a peek to see
Curiosity satisfied
So says my boy
So full of joy
And my heart says ha-ha-ha
Many a hole have I looked inside
Nothing you shall see
I walk on past, a tainted smile
No wonder now in me
There’s something there
Comes his raised decree
I saw something inside
Did you see your shadow?
A cynic’s sneer
I doubt my faithful boy
But turns out ‘twas true
Inside indeed, a furry form did dwell
Shame on me, my doubting heart
This lad has done so well
To see and look
To ask and seek
To seek and then to find
This is the way of life alive
And my spark was waning embers
But breathe my boy
Breathe curious air
And I shall flame again
To seek with you
The greater things
In holes both light and dim
A hunt for us, our birthright chore
The business of the kings
To seek and find, disclose the more
Concealed in all dark things.
