Up, Not Out

What is this
With which we might
Defy the laws of physics?
A fragile fabric bulb
To hold us all.
And from height,
I feel the gravity
Of our lofty situation.
Up and up we’re climbing
On the air.
And the clouds
They look
Like cotton candy,
But they taste
Much more refined—
A sugar born of freedom
And the breeze.
The breath which stirs
The tempest.
The breath which fills
Our lungs.
And the breath
Inferno heated
To bring lift.
So higher unto heaven.
Come laughing clouds and call.
With thunderous declaration,
Name us now the generation,
Who soaring “Up, Not Out”
Forgot to fall.
