Giving Unified Language through Catchphrases

posted in: For Children 0

Adults should strive to sharpen a few (or many) key phrases kids can grow up to remember as maxims.
Here are a few from my own home:

“Whose voice are you listening to?”
This is the phrase our whole family uses to indicate to each other that our conduct doesn't seem to be flowing from the voice of God.

“We're Good and Growing”
This is the phrase we use to give permission for mistakes yet insist upon increasing responsibility to ever grow toward greater levels of goodness.

“No one can control you, but you.”
Blame can’t survive when we use this catchphrase to remember we always have a choice.

This week I want to encourage all of us to:

1. Number a piece of paper or a word-processing document 1 through 3.

2. With your spouse or team (if applicable), define 3 catchphrases you want to become a part of your family's/organization's rote vocabulary.

3. Pick one you want to start implementing, and creatively post it throughout your environment! Get the words to sink in by repetition in a variety of forms. Perhaps even make it into a ditty, so everyone is singing it! Have fun with it.

Businesses that struggle with behavior issues in their employees, lack inspiration, and forget what’s most important are businesses with weak culture.

The same is true for our homes and organizations.

If life feels consumed by behaviors, lacking inspiration or distracted, creating intentional culture is your solution.
